On this web log at the end of last week, we published a quiz aimed at NVQ Assessors. Well here are the answers!
- What do we mean by holistic assessment?
When we look at something "holistically" it means we look at the whole thing rather than its component parts. So in terms of NVQ assessment it means we plan across the whole award rather than Unit by Unit. This affords maximum value of each piece of evidence and duplication of work by both the learner and the assessor.
2. When would use professional discussion as an assessment method?
Professional discussion is a new method of assessment introduced with the A1 standards. It is best used at the beginning of the learners award to determine previous experiences and learning that may be used toward their current qualification. professional discussion can also be used as a means of gathering underpinning knowledge from learners. The discussion itself can either be recorded in script or taped on an audio cassette. If using audio, it is essential to use the tape counter as an audit trail thereby enabling the internal and external verifier to sample effectively.
3. What is your understanding of the Data Protection Act?
The data protection act means we do not disclose confidential information to a 3rd party without the express permission of the person who the information is about. All confident ail information must be kept within a secure system.
4. Why do we have standardization meetings?
The main purpose of standardization meetings is for assessors to standardize their assessments - that is ensuring that all assessors are working to the same standards and using the same recording processes. It is also a useful forum to exchange ideas and issues; disseminate information from the awarding bodies; report on EV visits and action plans; look at learner progression; and for the IV to include some developmental activity. WE must keep minutes of all standardization meetings including attendance lists.
5. What do we mean by fair Access to Assessment?
Fair access to assessment means all learners, regardless of individual personal and social circumstances, are afforded fair and equal access to the assessment process.
6. Can you explain your centres complaints and appeals procedure?
All centres must have a written appeals and complaints process, it is the assessor's responsibility to ensure that all learners are given a copy of this document.
7. What do the following acronyms stand for?
- JAB Joint Awarding Bodies
- QCA Qualification curriculum Authority
- ENTO Employers National Training Organisation
- SVQ Scottish Vocational Qualification
