NVQ assessment centres can claim certification for awards in one of 2 ways - determined by the external verifier.
Direct Claim Certification: Centres with this status can claim unit and full award certificates direct from the awarding body once the learners work has been internally verified. The external verifier has agreed that the centre is consistently assessing and verifying at a quality where they can claim for certification directly.
Postal Claim Certification: Centres with this status cannot claim for certificates until after the external verifier has signed off the portfolios. This does not necessarily mean the centre is a poor one. The likliehood is it is either a new centre, offering a new award, or is a small centre where throughput of learners is relatively small not affording the external verifier enough range to award direct claim status.
In terms of learners, if they are registered with a direct claim centre, they will receive certification as soon as they have completed. At a postal claim centre, the learner has to wait until after the next EV visit - and this could be some months away.
