In recent years, I have been doing a lot of work in the voluntary sector - delivering training programmes. A regular difficulty is access to a suitable venue. Conference centres and hotels, although offering superb facilities, have pricing to match and way out of the league of most small voluntary agencies - who prefer to direct their funds at target groups rather than use their limited resources on expensive venues. However, church halls and the like rarely have the facilities to deliver multi-media training programmes.
I have often found a tit for tat approach works - especially with the statutory sector. the voluntary sector gets to use the training premises and in return, the organisation providing the venue gets a couple of free places on the programme. This has additional benefits within my own field of health & social care where the aproach is now an integrated multi-agency focus. It allows people from different agencis to meet and learn together and to forge new networks. Everyone wins!
